What do men fear? Is there something that women worry about in leadership as well?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Enhancing women&#8217;s leadership will contribute to building better societies. Patriarchal institutions need the maternal side as well. Women leaders are a stepping stone towards more equal communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-830x553.jpg 830w, https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-230x153.jpg 230w, https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-350x233.jpg 350w, https:\/\/missionoutlook.xaverians.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Leader-3-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the doctorate dissertation of <strong>Dr. Shawn Andrews<\/strong>, <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/trainingindustry.com\/magazine\/issue\/gender-barriers-and-solutions-to-leadership\/#:~:text=There%20are%20four%20types%20of,or%20simple%20after%2Dwork%20drinks\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/trainingindustry.com\/magazine\/issue\/gender-barriers-and-solutions-to-leadership\/#:~:text=There%20are%20four%20types%20of,or%20simple%20after%2Dwork%20drinks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gender Barriers and Solutions to Leadership<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, \u201cWomen represent a full 60% of bachelor\u2019s degrees earned at U.S. universities and also outpace men in the total number of master\u2019s and doctorate degrees.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So why do women constitute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aauw.org\/resources\/research\/barrier-bias\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.aauw.org\/resources\/research\/barrier-bias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">only 7.2% of the total Fortune 500 companies\u2019 leadership?<\/a> What hinders women from leadership roles?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Dr. Andrews, <strong>there are three main barriers:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Institutional and individual mindsets (bias and stereotypes), lack of flexibility balancing family and work, and women\u2019s exclusions from social events such as golf courses and simple after-work drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stereotypes and biases<\/strong> are the most difficult barriers to address. In effect, they have an old origin and are rooted in people\u2019s mindsets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, there are very few commercials that depict women as leaders. There are still some jobs that people stereotypically prefer a specific gender, such as nursing. Take the case of a nurse, people still picture in their minds that a nurse must be a woman but why not a man instead?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The same happens with women leaders. People still expect to find a man in that role.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, women have more difficulties <strong>managing family duties and work.<\/strong> This is because society still associates women with house chores and care of the children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" emancipation, they bear more responsibilities at work, that combined with family commitments, prevent them from leadership roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, <strong>golf courses and informal meetings<\/strong> have become main social events where men gather and establish important relationships with CEOs and head company members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>However, often men assume that women don\u2019t want to take part in these types of events, so they don\u2019t invite them <\/p><cite>Dr. Andrews wrote.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>In this way, <strong>women are excluded from opportunities to be better known by head company members.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"728\" these barriers are in women\u2019s hands.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, to overcome men colleagues\u2019 stereotypes, women might consistently \u201c<strong>communicate their desire to advance, travel or take a new assignment.<\/strong> This type of communication will put to rest any assumption made about them,\u201d Dr. Andrews wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div may adopt to change individual mindsets is <strong>not to volunteer in every home chores<\/strong> activity.
